Family Therapy is counselling for families, couples or individuals.
The therapist will work to identify individual and family strengths to address and replace patterns of interactions that cause problems or stress. Sometimes problems arise within the family and sometimes from outside it.
Some common situations may be:
- differing parenting styles and expectations,
- resolving conflict between parents and teenagers or between partners,
- managing risky or challenging teenage behaviour,
- difficulties communicating – “she doesn’t understand me”, “he doesn’t listen”.
Counselling is the process of respectful listening, problem solving, defining goals, discovering strengths and resources and learning to manage emotions or challenges.
Issues may be:
- coping with the loss of a loved one or a relationship
- depression
-
stress
- change of job, health or living situation
-
confused thinking
-
difficulty making decisions
-
building self-esteem
- personal development
- spirituality
In the Session: We will talk about what you want to achieve, your view of the problem and how it’s affecting you, possible solutions or options and identify useful strengths and resources.
You are welcome to book in for one introductory session if you're unsure, or new to counselling.
